I was diagnosed with ASD at a young age back in the very early 90s when most people still didn’t know what it was. It didn’t help that I was going to a catholic school that had very high standards and few teachers who cared even when my mother spoke to them. Many of them would tell me to sit still, look them in the eyes, and sometimes they just lashed out, “Are you even listening to me?!” “Why can’t you be like ___?” “It’s like you don’t care!” “What’s wrong with you?!!” And the most hurtful, “You’ll never amount to anything!” (Fortunately there were enough good ones to not only help, but listen.) It didn’t help that my being on the spectrum and growing up in a home that didn’t want video games or violent shows caused me to be isolated from my peers. More than half my Kindergarten class saw Jurassic Park and despite my love of dinosaurs, I was ostracized. As you can imagine, I didn’t have friends. My asthma made me terrible at sports, even with an inhaler. It was not unusual for me to eat my lunch entirely alone. By 6th grade it had gotten to the point where I developed depression from being so different from everyone else and it may have destroyed my entire self image. Even as a child I often learned things by mimicking what I saw on television and sometimes wondered if I even had existed as a real person in my own mind. Am I really me, or am I just a reflection of something I’m copying? And then there was the homework. Good lord the homework. In my house homework was to be done immediately after school. No breaks, no tv, no eating, no nothing. I would often be stuck on the same page of my text book for hours trying to understand what it was trying to tell me and by the time I got everything done, dinner was cold and it was so late I had to go straight to bed only to wake up the next day and do it all over again. By the time I entered High School, the experiences of my previous 12 years of schooling had me segregating myself into the furthest corner of the classroom and I would refuse to talk to anyone. Even when classmates tried to reach out I wouldn’t talk to them and if I did it was usually “Go away.” or “Stop talking to me.” This was a public high school, lower standards, no uniforms, smaller classrooms, nobody from my old school was there, they all went to the fancy catholic high schools and I never saw them again. You have no idea how frightened and defensive I was. But there was a silver lining, this place never assigned homework. It was the first real step toward a self recovery that would completely turn me around. When I entered my sophomore year it was as if something changed in me. I started being social. I was open with my feelings and interests. The lack of homework allowed me to finally start watching tv after school. I watched Toonami all the time. Mom and dad even allowed video games into the house. I even started making real friends. For the first time in a long time, I was happy. I learned to love myself for who I was. I am real, I am not a freak, I’m just different. Being different is not bad. We are all different. My social experiences in high school allowed me to slowly develop what would become my sense of humor with a little sprinkling in of what I’d picked up from tv and early viral videos. I’m autistic. And I fucking love it!

I just received my formal autism diagnosis! Thanks for introducing me to what autism actually is. I couldn’t have asked for a better video to find almost a year and a half ago. I’m also thankful for the posted time this video was uploaded, because time is a strange concept for me to try to hold to so I thought it had been much further into the past that I began my self-diagnosis process. This video holds a special place in my heart for helping me understand myself in a way I can’t imagine living without now. So thank you :)

I never actually made the connection between magic in Rise and emotion, but that actually makes so much sense. I initially assumed that Donnie's aversion to magic stemmed entirely from his need to be useful, but his progression towards having his magic and his tech work in tandem makes a lot of sense when magic is viewed to be in relation to emotion. I really liked this analysis, thank you for providing this.

Most of the best written autistic characters in visual media were written without the intention of being autistic. In intentionally trying to depict autism, most writers either shy away from displaying the full breadth of an individual’s mentality, or make it too much of an all-consuming spectacle. True representation doesn’t come from being the clown on camera, nor from being a case study, but from being someone who is both the same, and different. Knowing that Rise Don was written with autism in mind is shocking because of how well done I find him and his portrayal to be. Genuine and present, but not the spotlight or treated like a hindrance to prop up others.

This is the best animated version of the character I have ever seen! In all honesty, I've never been a fan of the original character; he was like the fifth wheel on a four-wheel vehicle, he seemed to exist just so April could have a (will-they-or-won't-they) boyfriend, and the creators are often inconsistent in determining whether he should be a serious character or a comedic one. So changing up the character for this movie was absolutely necessary, and it worked splendidly!

Not only did Casey see Leo as a teacher, Leo also could’ve been some sort of father figure to him. One of the writers for the show did confirm that he was raised almost entirely by Leo. It makes sense that Casey would prioritize Leo over everyone else for the majority of the movie, since Leo must’ve not only been just a teacher, but a figure of comfort for Casey, too. Someone he looked up to for guidance, for comfort. Yes Leo trained Casey but he also raised him. Leo was so much more than just a sensei to Casey and it shows.

I wish that fans recognized Casey Jr's trauma more. In fanwork (art, fics, etc) people usually focus on the brothers. Obviously they have their trauma, but no-one talks about Casey. He got thrown back in time, watched his family die, was tasked with saving the world before the beginning of the end, sees his dead - but - not - dead - because - it's - the - past family, has to let Leo sacrifice himself again, and a lot more. I think people need to recognize that and it kinda upsets me that they don't. Hopefully if Rise gets a season 3 that can be explored. #saverottmnt

I appreciate that they gave Donnie multiple special interests that don’t necessarily correlate with one another. As someone on the spectrum, my special interests are widely ranging and show up greater at certain times than others. It just goes to show that, like most people, people labeled as autistic have multiple things they are passionate about and may just express their passions in a different way.

Just saying, the original Mirage comic was meant to be a one-off parody. It made fun of superhero movies and of the martial arts stereotypes in fashion. Splinter was originally a parody of a wise old Japanese sensei and the writers knew it. And face it, there's more rats in New York than humans. The issue here is that American movies do parodies of other countries but never create parodies of how other countries see them (rude, uncultured, trigger-happy). One of my ups about Rise Splinter is that he lost his honour and respect, taking on the worst American excesses when he moved to America. - greedy, rude, lazy, self-centered - not because he was brought up that way but because he became a rich American movie star surrounded by adoring fans. And when he sat around watching movies and eating junk food all day, he was watching his own movies, selfishly reminiscing about how he was once famous, completely failing to bring up his sons with any manners or respect at all. Moving to America had made him worse. The main downer here was when his ancestors told him that he had to sacrifice his sons for pointless honour. The beautiful irony is that Americans hated his new, American personality, not realising this is how many countries see them. Sometimes I feel like, when the Turtles talk about 'Honour', they are just throwing the word around without meaning. What do the writers even mean when Splinter uses the word 'Honour'? Nothing, really. The good guys have honour, the bad guys do not. But it also seems to be the only thing that matters to Splinter. In addition it comes to mean 'pride' and 'revenge'. In the original comics Splinter taught his sons ninjitsu specifically for the purpose of getting his revenge. 'Honour' becomes 'manners'. It's a really bad translation because it's not like murdering innocent people out of hand is given a thumbs up in the East. And this makes the East look... violent. Like, they think it's okay to take revenge as long as you do it politely - like they're the only ones who think that (revenge is a bad thing that happens worldwide). There's a degree of this whole 'sensei' stereotype that doesn't matter because it's a movie trope that drives the movie. Old people have life experience. But then it happens over and over in the same way and Splinter becomes a very empty character who we don't really care about, as opposed to his Western sons who actually matter because they have hobbies and personalities and we notice when they become focused too much on ninjitsu. Leo in 2003 has a bad rep for being boring because he only thinks about perfecting his ninjitsu skills, but we don't apply that logic to Splinter because that's his character now. Bayverse was the peak of it. Rats are experimented on in labs, so whatever. But many people noticed that Splinter was SO Eastern, despite having no connection to Japan. 2012 made more fun of the fact that he was a rat and rats like cheese, but I always felt like he was too easy with losing his humanity. He never really complained about his sons de-mutating near-strangers before him. He was so much of a sensei, it sucked dry his portrayal as a father. I also feel like Splinter doesn't teach his sons enough about Japan and the East. He doesn't want them getting hurt because they're mutants so he doesn't let them go above, because the East is isolationist but also, he's right. Since they're watching Western TV and reading Western books there's no reason for them to NOT know English but if they're never going to interact with humans, why don't they all speak fluent Japanese around the house? In space-time travel events, most of his sons don't even speak Japanese at all. They don't listen to Japanese music. They don't hear Japanese legends as bed-time stories. They don't learn of famed Japanese swordsmen like Miyamoto Musashi. They don't even know that Japanese mythology has an amphibian water-Yokai known as 'Kappa'. They are American.

In the 2012 series Ralph was acting pretty gay with a lizard guy. also there is a seen were you can see that leo from rottmt was looking at a guys butt.
